Matthew 20: 29-34

I have inserted everything that the LANTC had. There was so much that I did not know. so I felt it would be a shame if you were not able to read the whole thing. I will insert my thoughts in Blue print.

Mat 20:29 As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him. Mat 20:30 And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
This is my first thought. They called him son of David. The Jewish community believed that the Christ would come from the lineage of King David. The two blind men knew enough that they recognized him as the Christ. They could not read so they had to learn all this by ear and discern that this was truly him.

Mat 20:31 The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
I did not realize that being born blind meant that you were a sinner or you parents were sinners therefore you were condemned to be blind all your life. The crowd following Jesus new this and did not think that these two men should be even considered, they were sinners right, shunned by all. Not to Jesus, they were potential children of God. John 9:2

Mat 20:32 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" Mat 20:33 They said to Him, "Lord, we want our eyes to be opened." Mat 20:34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.
LANTC 20:29-31  These two blind men were sitting beside the road begging. The blind men heard that Jesus was at the head of an approaching crowd. In order to be heard above the din, they began shouting for Jesus’ attention. They had undoubtedly heard that Jesus had healed many (including blind people—see Mat_9:29-31), and they hoped that Jesus would have mercy on them and heal their eyes. There were no healings of the blind in the Old Testament; the Jews believed that such a miracle would be a sign that the messianic age had begun (Isa_29:17-18; Isa_35:4-5).

So the Jewish community knew that the messianic era was when the blind could be healed but yet they still do not believe to this day. There are messianic Jews in the day and age and someday we will see them at the time of redemption.

LANTC The crowd tried to get the men to be quiet. It was most natural for the people, even Jesus’ disciples, to attempt to shield Jesus from being harassed by beggars. But this only caused the men to shout louder. They kept on crying out in an attempt to gain Jesus’ attention.

LANTC 20:32-34 Although Jesus was concerned about the coming events in Jerusalem, he demonstrated what he had just told the disciples about service (Mat_20:26-28) by stopping to care for the blind men. Blindness was considered a curse from God for sin (Joh_9:2), but such an idea did not hinder Jesus. Because Jesus probably knew what the men wanted, his question was not to gain information, but to allow them to specify their need and, in the process, to declare their faith that Jesus could meet that need. The result of the blind men’s request was that Jesus touched their eyes and instantly they could see.
Jesus was a great example of a server. He has shown us how to act on this earth.
