1 Co 3: 12-23

1Co 3:12  Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 1Co 3:13  But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person's work has any value.

Gold, silver, jewels, wood. hay, or straw. Which of these would burn if put in a fire. Your salvation in Christ has been assured but your place in heaven is a variable. If you attend church on some Sundays and really do not listen. You give the church a few dollars or none at all are you gold or straw. Mat 28:18  Jesus came and told His disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Mat 28:19  Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Mat 28:20  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Gold or Straw?

1Co 3:14  If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 1Co 3:15  But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.

From the life Application New Testament Commentary
3:14-15 Because the foundation is Jesus Christ, everyone who builds on that foundation will be saved. But these believers will present to God the lives that they have lived for him. Some of them will present lives of gold, silver, and jewels—lives built on the truth of the gospel and spent in sacrifice and service to God. These builders will receive a reward (see 1Co_3:8). Some will present lives that amount to no more than wood, hay, and straw, and all that they did and accomplished in this world will be burned up. These builders will be saved, but only as if they jumped out of a burning building and lost everything but their lives. They will enter heaven but will not receive the same reward as those who built well.
I do not know what the rewards are or how different they will be. I prefer to strive for gold or silver where are you in your endeavors.

1Co 3:16  Don't you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? 1Co 3:17  God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

When we are at church as a body of believers we are God’s holy temple. When you are at home you are still part of that temple. If you pray as a church think how powerful that is, all are a temple it becomes obvious why it is said Mat_18:20  For where two or three gather together as My followers, I am there among them."
.
1Co 3:18  Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world's standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. 1Co 3:19  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, "He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness."

Job 38:11  I said, 'This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves must stop!' Job 38:12  "Have you ever commanded the morning to appear and caused the dawn to rise in the east? Job 38:13  Have you made daylight spread to the ends of the earth, to bring an end to the night's wickedness? Job 38:14  As the light approaches, the earth takes shape like clay pressed beneath a seal; it is robed in brilliant colors. Job 38:15  The light disturbs the wicked and stops the arm that is raised in violence. Job 38:16  "Have you explored the springs from which the seas come? Have you explored their depths?
Job 38:17  Do you know where the gates of death are located? Have you seen the gates of utter gloom? Job 38:18  Do you realize the extent of the earth? Tell Me about it if you know! Job 38:19  "Where does light come from, and where does darkness go?

Just in case anyone thinks they are smarter than God. There was more in Job but this will do.

1Co 3:20  And again, "The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise; He knows they are worthless." 1Co 3:21  So don't boast about following a particular human leader. For everything belongs to you
1Co 3:22  whether Paul or Apollos or Peter, or the world, or life and death, or the present and the future. Everything belongs to you,
1Co 3:23  and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.

I think of the cults that have formed, James Jones, or the ones that were going to join the tail of a comet. How foolish can you be? There is only one God and it God the father the Son and the Holy Spirit.
