Romans (5:1-11)
Rom 5:1 Therefore, since we
have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of
what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
The word therefore is showing that something has been
completed. Christ’s death on the cross has given us a way to salvation. If you
have accepted that invitation you have to have faith that you are saved. Not by
works, James 2:24 seems to
dispute this claim. Please read http://www.gotquestions.org/salvation-faith-alone.html. There is a
complete answer there. James was trying to say, rather poorly, that if you have
faith good works are automatically going to happen. If they do not then there
may be a question around your faith.
Rom 5:2 Because of our
faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we
now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory.
Undeserved privilege, what have we have we done to expect
God’s mercy? That is a powerful statement. Because of that gift we can share
God’s glory. A complete discussion of God’s Glory can be found on http://www.gotquestions.org/glory-of-God.html
Let’s just say that sharing God’s glory is a really good
thing/
Rom 5:3 We can rejoice, too,
when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop
endurance. Rom 5:4 And endurance develops
strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of
salvation.
We all know that bad things happen to good people. I
personally have struggled with cancer for a very long time. My goal is to die
with it not because of it. What I have been able to do is talk with other
cancer victims and or their loved ones. So is my cancer a good or bad thing? It
is both. It has changed who I am as a person but it has also given me insight
which I can share. Therefor I am
stronger than I was in that area.
Rom 5:5 And this hope will
not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has
given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love. Rom 5:6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at
just the right time and died for us sinners. Rom 5:7
Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though
someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. Rom 5:8 But God showed His great love for us by
sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Without God’s great love for us we would still be under the law of
Moses. We would all be raising goats and sheep for sacrifice. Kidding aside by
having the Holy Spirit available to use we can commune directly with God. When
we die we will have Jesus as a champion for us.
In the 6th verse it says we were utterly hopeless and that is
true. Do you think 7 billion people on earth could be tribal and basically all
farmers to meet the Mosaic standards.
Rom 5:9 And since we have
been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save
us from God's condemnation. Rom 5:10 For since
our friendship with God was restored by the death of His Son while we were
still His enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of His Son. Rom 5:11 So
now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord
Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
We are friends with God. It doesn’t get any better than that.
